Giovanni GAJA

The 1992 vintage in Langhe was not a good one: “A disaster,” in the words of Angelo Gaja.

“We declassified completely.” However, on the heels of the disaster came a blessing. In February 1993, the family welcomed a son, Giovanni.

The younger of Giovanni’s two sisters is 12 years older than him, and he jokes that as a child, it was like he had three mothers.

Building on a degree in economics and management earned at Milan’s Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in 2015, Giovanni initially spent six months in London and a year in New York, where he learned about the importing and distribution side of the wine industry.

Upon returning home, he began traveling the globe to promote his family’s wines,

expanding their markets.

With his parents and sisters, Giovanni is actively involved in the vineyard management across all the wineries and the decisions on the final blends for the portfolio of wines.

A member of the fifth generation, he will help guide the family winery—founded a century and a half ago by his great-great-grandfather Giovanni Gaja—into the future.

Giovanni Gaja represents the fifth generation from his Iconic Piedmontese winemaking family, GAJA. He will lead us through a special dinner in the Barn at Miel while we taste current and slightly aged vintages from a variety of sites & bottlings.

Taste the breadth of GAJA's wines and learn from Giovanni what we will see from he and his sisters in years to come.
